BSA releases the refreshed 2020 Election Programmes Code of Broadcasting Practice
The Code applies to election programmes broadcast for or by political parties and candidates on TV and radio in the run up to the General Election. Election Programmes are usually short promotional political advertising clips which may only be broadcast in the election period, which this year runs from 16 August to midnight on 18 September 2020. Complaints about whether an election programme breaches the code can be made directly to the BSA and a fast track process for dealing with the complaint will apply. Guidance for broadcasters, complainants and political parties/candidates is available here. The Code takes effect from 1 March 2020.
