BSA releases five new decisions today
The BSA has today released decisions on five complaints, three of which related to radio broadcasts and two to television broadcasts. One complaint related to an election advertisement for the Ban 1080 Party which was not upheld.
One of the upheld complaints related to broadcasts on a Sikh community radio station, Radio Virsa. The Authority found that aspects of the broadcasts complained about contained divisive and derogatory language, treated named individuals in the Sikh community (including the complainant) unfairly and, in one instance, breached an individual’s privacy. In response to the Authority’s decision, the broadcaster has offered an apology to the individuals concerned and the Authority has ordered that a broadcast statement be made.
