Authority releases five new decisions
The BSA released decisions on five complaints today, with one complaint upheld. The upheld complaint related to an item on The Project which was critical about the South Waikato District Council’s role in the authorisation of a new gambling venue, as well as a Councillor involved. The following evening, one of the programme hosts clarified inaccurate statements that were made and issued an on-air apology to the Councillor, but not to the SWDC. The Authority upheld SWDC’s complaint that the action taken by MediaWorks was insufficient, finding that the host’s statement did not remedy the harm caused to the SWDC. The Authority ordered the broadcaster to broadcast a statement summarising the decision.
