Summary During a programme entitled Around the Bend broadcast on 95bFM on 30 April 2000 at about 8. 30pm a song by the Yeastie Girls entitled "You Suck" was played. It concerned oral sex. Barbara Faithfull, on behalf of the Credo Society, complained to 95bFM, the broadcaster, that the song was "nauseatingly indecent, morally repugnant and human degradation personified" and breached broadcasting standards. In its response, 95bFM reported that this was a "joke song" created in response to the "overt sexism" of songs by the Beastie Boys....

RNZ explained that the word arose in the context of a discussion about the origin of the word "munted" which had apparently been used on the programme earlier that day. Summary A psychic involved in a private search for two missing Blenheim friends in the Marlborough Sounds expounded her theory on how they had died in an item on One Network News broadcast on TV One on 10 April 1998 between 6. 00–7. 00pm. Ms Gendall complained to Television New Zealand Ltd, the broadcaster, that it was offensive and unnecessarily distressing to the families to have the psychic offer her "grisly conclusions" as to how they had died. Summary On two occasions on 31 July 1998 between 9. 00-9. 30am, a caller to Hot 93FM referred to the winner of an on-air competition as "That bitch E…C…". The caller said she had helped the winner with the answers to the competition, but that the winner had refused to share the prize of a dinner for four. Station staff then made two hoax calls in a similar vein. Ms C, the winner of the competition, complained to the Broadcasting Standards Authority under s. 8(1)(c) of the Broadcasting Act 1989 that her privacy was breached by the broadcast. She also complained directly to the station that it contravened the requirement for broadcasters to observe standards of good taste and decency. She reported that she had been extremely upset by the calls....
