Summary Footage showing the capture and shooting of one of three Bengali tigers which had escaped from a circus in Warsaw was broadcast on 3 News on 15 March 2000 between 6. 00-7. 00pm. The item included footage of a veterinarian, who was trying to shoot the tiger with a tranquiliser gun, himself being accidentally shot and killed. Gillean Parsonson complained to TV3 Network Services Ltd that it was "thoroughly irresponsible" to broadcast such graphically violent content in the early evening when children would be watching television....

Summary An American documentary entitled Scared Straight – 20 Years On was broadcast by TV3 on 12 July 1999 at 8. 30pm. It examined a rehabilitation programme for youthful offenders which was based on behaviour modification. The programme was trialled in the 1970s, and 20 years later some of those participants were asked about their experiences on the course and how they had lived their lives since then. James Whitham complained to TV3 Network Services Ltd, the broadcaster, that the programme condoned violence and encouraged intimidating and threatening behaviour. He contended that it had breached a number of broadcasting standards. TV3 responded by noting that the behaviour modification programme had been used successfully in America to help teenage offenders. Summary Four appliance repair centres were given a faulty microwave oven to repair and the results were reported on Target broadcast by TV3 Network Services Ltd on 6 June 1999 between 7. 00–7. 30pm. Manukau Appliance Service Centre Ltd repaired the microwave by bypassing the variable power switch with the result that it could only operate on high power. Mr Welch, Managing Director of Manukau Appliance Service Centre, complained to the broadcaster that the item was unfair to his company because it left the impression that his staff were incompetent in locating faults in electrical equipment.
