SummaryPolice were hunting an armed robber who had shot a security guard in a shopping centre, according to news reports on 3 News and Nightline broadcast on TV3 on 26 July 1999. Footage accompanying the item showed police Armed Offenders Squad members approaching a house in Auckland. S, C and E complained to the Broadcasting Standards Authority that their privacy was breached because the footage showed their home. They reported that their home was recognisable to friends and family and that they and their children were upset and distraught at the implication they could be linked to the robbery. Summary The film Courage Under Fire was broadcast on TV3 on 21 May 2000 beginning at 8. 30pm. During a combat scene in the film, one of the characters was heard to say "Jesus fucking Christ". Brian Burlace complained to TV3 Network Services Ltd, the broadcaster, that the language used was blasphemous and offensive. SummaryA film called The Cowboy Way, broadcast by TV3 Network Services Ltd, on 23 September at 8. 30pm, featured actors Woody Harrelson and Kiefer Sutherland as two cowboys who travelled to New York to find the killer of their friend. Mr Standen complained to TV3 that a scene in the film depicted a calf being prepared by the cowboys to suckle on a man’s penis as a form of torture. SummaryThe "Bluffer’s Guide" is a regular feature of Ansett Time of Your Life. In the programme broadcast on TV3 on 26 May 1998 at 8. 00pm, it focused on cigar smoking. Mr Pester of Pahiatua complained through the Broadcasting Standards Authority to TV3 Network Services Ltd that the programme glorified cigar smoking in a manner which would be attractive to young people. He argued that TV3 had employed a deceptive programme practice because it encouraged young people to smoke cigars, and that it had failed to be mindful of the effect of the programme on children.
