One Network News, Tonight. News items reported on election by Parliament of a Deputy Speaker and showed exchanges in the House following the selection ofthe Deputy Speaker. Not upheld (balance).

Kerr and Radio One - 1997-029

Student radio station at Otago University. Song with obscenities in title and lyrics. Upheld (good taste and decency). No order.

Rule and Television New Zealand Ltd - 1997-030

The Great Kiwi Video Show. Winning entry was video footage of a toddler handling a kitten. Complaint that toddler's clumsy handling was mistreatment of the kitten. Not upheld (violence).

White and Television New Zealand Ltd - 1997-018

A promo for a programme in the series of The Gladiators came between the children's programme Barney which began at 8.30am and Here's Humphrey. Complaint that it was totally inappropriate to broadcast a violent promo in between two programmes intended for preschool-aged children. Not upheld (responsible programming, children's interests).

Children's Media Watch and TV3 Network Services Ltd - 1997-020

3 Ninjas. Film told a story about a grandfather who taught his grandchildren how to be Ninjas, showing  how the karate skills and the knowledge gained by the children were used to defend themselves against some evil men whom their father, as an FBI agent, was trying to catch. Not upheld (violence).

Burton and TV3 Network Services Ltd - 1997-021

Sex/Life. Sexual issues were explored in the series, broadcast at 8.30pm, and particular programme discussed aphrodisiacs, menopause and the art of seduction. Upheld (good taste and decency). No order.
