BSA releases four new decisions

The Authority released four decisions on six complaints today, with none of the complaints upheld. One decision concerned a segment on The Project, which discussed a tweet by National MP Judith Collins. Ms Collins retweeted an article from yournewswire.com which implied that France had made it easier for adults to legally have sex with children. The Project host Jesse Mulligan referred to Ms Collins’ tweet as an example of ‘fake news’, as in fact consent laws in France had been strengthened, which the complainant considered was inaccurate. The Authority found that the segment comprised Mr Mulligan’s analysis or opinion, and was therefore not subject to the requirements of the accuracy standard, and the complaint was not upheld.
